In The Beginning

I spent my formative years in Wokingham, Berkshire. I wanted to be a photo-journalist but was dissuaded after two unsuccessful applications to art college, so I qualified as a beauty therapist instead and then moved to Bristol, whereby a series of bizarre events led to my becoming a trainee Fingerprint Officer. In 1989, I sold my flat and travelled to the Far East and Australia, working in Melbourne Fingerprint Bureau for a while. After eighteen months I returned home and resumed my fingerprint career.

Film Out - Digital In

We moved to Luanda, Angola in 1998. Photographing in the city was prohibited and to avoid arrest I hid in the back of the car whilst my driver/bodyguard drove through the barrios. I smuggled unprocessed films whenever I left the country and reluctantly turned 'digital' when a large batch of films were destroyed by the airport x-ray machine.

What To Do In Baku?

The following ex-pat relocation was to Baku in Azerbaijan. Photographing people and the city was positively encouraged. I established digital photography classes for ex-pats and Nationals with each course culminating with a group show.

The Foams & Complex Systems Group, School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin

On the 31st December 2014 I became a Visiting Research Assistant to the Foams and Complex Systems Group, School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin - working with Prof. Stefan Hutzler to produce a catalogue of extreme-macro imagery and video footage of their Ordered Cylindrical Structures research. Our two year collaboration led to an exhibition of my work at Eufoam 2016, Trinity College Dublin. As a direct result of our work, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society Brian Griffin, selected my Colour Combined video to show alongside his Himmelstrasse series at the Magic Gallery, London in August 2016.
